Gators Downed 7-2 by Top-Seeded SJFU

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Russell Sage College headed out to Saint John Fisher for the first day of the double elimination portion of the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament and fell 7-2 to the top-seeded Cardinals.

RSC, making its fourth-straight appearance in the E8 Tournament, hung with the hosts, now winners of 21 in-a-row, early. The contest was knotted at 2 through four and a half innings of play.  SJFU scored three runs in the fourth and added two more in the fifth for the final margin.

Freshman shortstop Allison Kenyon (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) recorded her third-consecutive game with at least two hits, leading the RSC bats with a 2-for-3 afternoon. The rookie is batting .750 (6-for-8) with two runs scored and two RBI during the stretch.

A trio from Saint John Fisher (31-4), seeking its fifth E8 Tournament title in seven years, registered multiple hits. Sophomore designated player Emma MacLachlan paced the Cardinals by going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a homer.

RSC (13-23) is scheduled to face Alfred in an elimination game on Friday at 12:30 PM


Gator Bites: The Gators are making their fourth-consecutive appearance in the E8 Championship Tournament…RSC reached the finals in the 2023 edition…RSC swept Saturday’s home E8 doubleheader from Elmira to secure not only the final playoff spot, but hosting rights for Tuesday’s first round game vs. Keuka…Head Coach Stephanie Reinhardt (Manhattan ’18) is in her first season at the helm of the Gators…10 players, including six starters returned this spring…Sophomore pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) was selected the E8 Pitcher of the Week for the periods ending Sunday, April 7 and Sunday, May 5.... The righty (10-11) entered the Tournament action at Saint John Fisher leading the Conference with a program single-season record 158 innings pitched,  146 strikeouts, 15 complete games, and two saves...She became just the fifth Gator to surpass 200 career strikeouts in Tuesday’s 5-0 shutout of visiting Keuka...Madore went 3-0 with 30 strikeouts and a 0.37 ERA last week...Opposing hitters only managed 10 hits and batted .149 off Madore during the three complete game wins... Sophomore Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) was chosen the E8 Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, May 5…She slashed .538/.846/.571 with five runs scored and two RBI across four games...Heading into the postseason, the catcher/outfielder led RSC with a .388 batting average and a .463 slugging percentage...She was one of five Gators that hit better than .305 during the regular season, with four hitting greater than .340...Sophomore infielder Amber Banas (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) stood out during the playoff push, batting .514 during the final 11 contests of the regular season...Junior outfielder Madalyn Ring (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) and freshman infielder Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) effectively set the table...Ring began the week with a .343 batting average with 22 stolen bases, while Tyler was batting .363 with a .414 on-base percentage and 15 steals...The duo ranked second and third respectively in the E8 for stolen bases…Sophomore infielder Ciana Santana (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) tops RSC with 19 RBI.
