ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Softball had four players earn All-Empire 8 Conference honors. Accolades were determined based upon voting conducted by the Conference's head coaches.
Sophomore pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) and freshman infielder Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) made the second-team, while junior outfielder Madalyn Ring (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) was voted to the third-team.
Madore (10-12) hurled the Gators into the four-team, double elimination portion of the E8 Championship Tournament, held May 9-11 at Saint John Fisher. The righty, who was chosen the E8 Pitcher of the Week twice this spring, entered the Tournament action out in Pittsford leading the Conference with a program single-season record 158 innings pitched, 146 strikeouts, 15 complete games, and two saves. On May 7th, she became just the fifth Gator to surpass 200 career strikeouts in the 5-0 shutout of visiting Keuka in the first round of the E8 playoffs. Madore finished her season with 171 innings pitched, 154 strikeouts, both single-season program records, and 17 complete games.
Tyler and Ring effectively set the table as the lead-off and number two hitters. Ring, who topped the Gators with 24 runs scored, entered the postseason with a .343 batting average and 22 stolen bases, while Tyler, the team leader with 40 hits, was batting .363 with a .414 on-base percentage and 15 steals. Going into the Tournament, the duo ranked second and third respectively in the E8 for stolen bases.
One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2024 E8 Softball Sportswomen of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen. Freshman pitcher Zoe Moroughan (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) represented the Gators on the squad.
RSC (13-24) made its fourth-straight appearance in the E8 Championship Tournament.
