Troy, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team hosted Vassar College on Friday night in the Neff Center in a non-conference match. The Brewers triumphed, 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-16) to improve to 4-8 overall, while Sage drops to 1-8.
The Brewers opened up as much as a 10-point advantage in the first set, as they hit a cool .393 in the opening set, holding the Gators (1-8) to a hitting percentage of .000.
Vassar (4-7) improved its hitting percentage to over 40 percent in the second set, pulling away for the 2-0 match lead. In the final game, VC finished the set with an 8-0 run to earn the clean sweep.
Sophomore Reno Kriz (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland) once again paced the offense for the Brewers, chalking up 14 kills on 25 swings, adding five service aces and four digs. Senior Joe Pyne (Los Angeles, CA/Oakwood Secondary) had nine kills and six digs, while Colin White-Dzuro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Royal St. George) had 15 helpers, nine kills, five digs and three assisted blocks.
Sophomore middle hitter Erik Halberg (Newark, DE/Salesianum) finished with six kills on 12 attacks, adding three blocks, and freshman Colin Peros (Honolulu, HI/Punahou) came off the bench to dish out 21 assists.
The Brewers posted a 45-12-88 (.375) hitting clip for the night, and also had 10 service aces. Vassar also sided out at a 69 percent (35-50) rate. Trey Cimorelli (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) led the Brewers with nine digs.
Sage was led by the seven kills from senior captain Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls), while senior setter Matthew DeGeyter (Hudson, NY/Hawthorne Valley) had 16 assists, two kills and four digs. Krowicki was perfect in his 15 receptions on the night, while senior libero Cory Gransbury (Round Top, NY/Cairo-Durham) added 12 digs for the Gators.
Rookie Chris MacArthur (Hillsdale, NY/Taconic Hills) added one kill with a solo and a block assist for the Gators, while senior Zach Sullivan (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) connected for five kills with a dig.
Sage returns to action on February 27 for a 7 p.m. match at Southern Vermont that was rescheduled from last week.
