Sage men's basketball paced by Patterson on opening night

Rochester, NYThe Sage Colleges' men's basketball team opened the 2015-2016 season on Friday evening with an 84-72 win over Alfred State in the opening round of the Nazareth College Golden Flyer Tip-Off Tournament. The Gators led 44-39 at the break and never trailed in the contest as the team advances to Saturday's championship game and will play at 3 p.m. against the winner of the Nazareth and D'Youville from this evening's second contest.

Sage (1-0) was paced by the play of junior forward Marcus Patterson (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) as he had a team-best 17 points on opening night. He shot 6-11 from the floor and helped the team combine for a 45.5% field goal percentage on opening night, while also hauling in seven rebounds. Senior guard Jorrdan McCray (Orlando, FL/Wekiva) added 12 points, while junior guard Rob Mills (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) tallied 10 points in his Gator debut.

Sophomore Aundre Carty (Orlando, FL/Ocoee) and senior Andre Robinson (Fort Pierce, FL/Fort Pierce Westwood) added nine points each, while Robinson had eight assists with six boards. Senior Travis Gill (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian), the Skyline Defensive Player of the Year, chipped in eight points.
