Horne joins 1,000 point club as Gators beat Union, 98-73

Rochester, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's basketball team facing Union College on Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Nazareth College BSG Tournament. The Gators posted a convincing 98-73 win over Union as senior forward Mason Horne (Albany, NY/LaSalle Institute) became the second player in Sage men's basketball history to join the 1,000 point club.

Horne started the day needing just four points to hit the plateau and connected for 23 points to pace the Gators as he now has 1,019 career points and is the second all-time leading scorer in program history behind the other 1,000 point scorer, Matt Farbotko (1,244, 2009-2013).

Horne also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after averaging 22 points on the weekend.

Leading Sage on the afternoon was junior forward Kai Deans (Miami, FL/Monsignor Pace) with his game-high 28 point and 13 rebounds. He hit 11-of-17 shots from the floor and had two blocked shots as well for the day. 

Sage graduate student, Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) finished 16 points and nine assists, while making 7-of-10 from the free throw line.  Sophomore forward Melvin Ford (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) added 14 points in the start with eight rebounds and helped the Gators hold a 30-26 edge on the boards over Union. 

Union's Keith Callies added 21 points, while Terell Winney connected for 20 points for the Dutchmen.

Sage will return to action on November 20 taking on Albany College of Pharmacy in the Battle of New Scotland Avenue at ACPHS at 7 p.m.
