2013 Sage Women's Lacrosse Teams Rewrites Gator Record Book with 14-4 win!

Schenectady, NY—Sage's women's lacrosse team hosted the Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury on Wednesday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field on the campus of Union College. The contest was a Skyline Conference match-up that saw the Gators triumph, 14-4. The victory marks the first time in the Sage women's lacrosse program history the Gators have posted two wins both overall and in Skyline Conference play. Sage improves to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the Skyline Conference. SUNY-Old Westbury falls to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the league.

Sage led 9-3 at the half and has now won two of the squad's last three matches. Pacing the Gators to the victory was senior attacker Alexa Pajak (Earlton, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) as she netted ten points on the afternoon with seven goals and three assists. She leads the Sage program this year with 26 goals and 35 points. Her team-leading performance also ranks nationally as she was No. 66 in goals per game prior to the contest (3.8) and No. 65 in points per game (5.0). She is now averaging 4.167 goals per game and 5.83 points per game.

She continues to add to the Gators' career scoring marks as well as she has tallied 63 goals, 14 assists and 77 points, all active career bests for the young Gator program. Her feat is even more amazing as she has played in just 18 career games at Sage.

Sophomore Emily Stevenson (Ithaca, NY/Newfield) connected for two goals, while freshman Mallory Hansen (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added three goals for Sage. Stevenson added an assist and now has seven points on the season. Hansen has elevated her total to include 12 goals and an assist for 13 points, which is second best on the 2013 Gators.

Old Westbury's junior midfielder Jessica Walker (Franklin Square, NY/Holy Trinity) and freshman Courtney Gallagher (Rockaway, NY/Channel View School for Research) each scored twice for the Panthers. Gallagher leads the Panthers in scoring with her 21 points on 19 goals and two assists.

Sage's senior goalie Courtney Reed (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) recorded the win with her four saves and has added her name to another Sage career goalkeeper record with her effort on Wednesday. Reed now boasts three career wins in net, the most of any Sage goalie, while also racking up 282 career saves.   

OW's senior Sara Braverman (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) took the loss on Wednesday as she made 13 saves in the action.

The Gators return to action on March 28 hosting Green Mountain College at 4 p.m. at RPI's Renwyck Field in a non-conference contest.
