Defending League Champion, MSU Tops Sage on Saturday in Skyline Women's Lacrosse Action

Montclair, NJ – Senior attack Kailee Beal (Succasunna, NJ, Roxbury) scored four times and added an assist while sophomore Kailee Beal (Succasunna, NJ, Roxbury) added two goals and two assists as Montclair State bounced back from its first loss of the season with an 18-0 win over The Sage Colleges in a Skyline Conference game at Sprague Field on Saturday.

Sophomore attack Tierney Conlon (Caldwell, NJ, Caldwell) added a goal and four assists for the Red Hawks (6-1), who remained unbeaten in league play at 3-0. The Red Hawks recorded their second straight shutout against the Gators (1-5,  1-1 Skyline) as they improved to 5-0 in the series history. MSU also posted a shutout for the fifth straight season.

Montclair scored twice in the first 75 seconds of the game as Bussiere collected her first 1:02 into the contest and Kelly Schoneveld (Denville, NJ, Morris Knolls) finished a feed from Beal for a quick 2-0 advantage.

The Red Hawks were off and running from there as it tallied four more goals in a span of 2:48 to grab a 6-0 lead. Beal netted her first and Kara Crampton (Kinnelon, NJ, Kinnelon) scored 12 seconds later before Beal connected again with second as Montclair led 5-0 with 26:278 remaining. Krissa Henderson (Landing, NJ, Roxbury) capped off the spurt with her first goal.

Beal and would get one more in the first half which was followed up by goals from Kelly Salsano (Brick, NJ, Brick Township) and Schoneveld 46 seconds part that made the score 10-0. Conlon registered her goal off a free-position attempt with 14:19 to play before Summer Elsayed (Fair Lawn, NJ, Fair Lawn) recorded her first career goal as Montclair State led 12-0 at the break.

Meanwhile, the Red Hawks were not only keeping the Gators' offensive off the board, they weren't allowing any opportunities as Sage managed just one shot in the game. That came in the second half as Serena Heard (Malta, NY / Ballston Spa) was awarded a free-position attempt with 18:17 left however that was stopped by MSU keeper Melissa Farrell (Broomall, DE, Marple Newtown).

Krissa Henderson (Landing, NJ, Roxbury), Farrell and Rebecca Myers (River Edge, NJ, River Dell) combined on the shutout, the eighth in Montclair State history. Schoneveld had two three draws while Krissa Henderson, Brittany Feith (Succasunna, NJ, Roxbury) and Salsano had two apiece. Kelcie Wavra (Gillette, NJ, Watchung Hills) led MSU with three ground balls.

Sage's Senior goalie Courtney Reed (Mechanicsville, NY / Mechanicsville) had four saves on the afternoon.

Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, March 26 when they travel to Kean University for a 4:00 pm Skyline matchup with the Cougars. Sage is home on Wednesday, March 27 as they take on Old Westbury at 4:00 pm at Union College's Frank Bailey Field.
