Albany, NY –The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2014-2015 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2014-2015 Female and Male Athletes of the Year as well as the ECAC Merit Medal and the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average.
The Sage Colleges' men's track and field competitor, graduate performer Anthony Crawford (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass Academy) was named the Gator of the Year.
Head coach Jim Bowles said of Crawford, "Anthony came to Sage as a sprinter and had no intention of running longer than 100 meters." Bowles continued, "With only a club track team when he arrived, he decided to run cross country for the Gators to get ready for track. He discovered that he actually enjoyed running longer distances. He became a team leader, who could be looked to and called upon to help the team by running any event. He will be very difficult to replace as he graduates having established the school record in the 100 and 200 meters runs and also ranks 12th on the all-time list for best times in cross country at Sage."
Among his many performances this spring in track, he posted a time of 11.27 in the 100 meters at the UAlbany Purple and Gold Last Chance Meet and added a time of 22.91 in the 200 meters.
An accomplished Sage Scholar-Athlete, he was a Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete in Cross Country and named to the Sage Athletic Honor Society. A graduate student at Sage, he is majoring in counseling with a focus on Community Psychology and Forensic Mental Health. He has been very active on campus having served as a resident assistant and a graduate assistant in the Student Activities office during his time at Sage.
