Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team hosted the Maccabees of Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon in a Skyline Conference match. The Gators posted a 4-1 win to remain unbeaten in the league (4-0 Skyline Conference, while improving to 6-3-1 overall. Yeshiva drops to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Yeshiva struck first as sophomore forward Yafi Friedman (Teaneck, NJ.Frisch School) connected on a feed from rookie Itamar Ben David (Tel-Aviv, Isreal) at the 8:51 mark of the match. The Gators answered back as sophomore defender Tyler Sivulich (Rhinebeck, NY/Red Hook) connected for his second goal of the season on a pass from senior defender Nick Mauro (Bristol, CT/Bristol Central) 10:37.
Sophomore midfielder Sean Lanza (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) broke the 1-1 tie with his second goal of the year on a feed from senior defender Matt Flaherty (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) at 20:55. Senior forward Scott Jarosz (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) helped the Gators to a 3-1 halftime lead with his goal at the 27:33 mark.
Jarosz is Sage's all-time career goal scoring leader with his 34 goals and 69 points. Assisting on the goal for the Gators was junior midfielder Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck). Trinidad leads Sage in scoring with 15 points (5 goals, 5 assists). He now has 16 career goals and now has 51 career points, while leading the program with his 19 career assists.
The final goal of the afternoon came at 78:46 as junior Jose Miranda (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) on a feed from junior Austin Wilson (Troy, NY/Tamarac).
Sage's senior keeper Tim Madden (Watertown, NY/Watertown) recorded six saves in posting the win. Yeshiva's senior Doron David (Hollywood, FL/Weinbaum Yeshiva) recorded five saves in the action.
Sage returns to action on October 9 hosting Mt. St. Mary College in a Skyline Conference match that will be held at Saint Rose's Plumeri Sports Complex with an 8:30 p.m. start. Sage will hold its Fright Night and is encouraging fans to wear face paint or a facemask to the match. Yeshiva University is also in action on October 9 hosting St. Joseph's (LI) in a Skyline Conference contest to be held at Tibbetts Brook Park at 8 p.m.
