Trimblett's late goal lifts Sage past SUNY-Polytechnic

Albany, NY –The Sage women's soccer team hosted the Wildcats of SUNY-Polytechnic on Wednesday evening and triumphed 1-0 as rookie forward Samantha Trimblett (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) scored the only goal of the match. Sage improves to 11-3 overall, while the loss puts SUNY-Polytechnic at 6-5-2.

After a scoreless first half, Trimblett scored her team-best 10th goal of the year on a pass from junior Cassidy Bruen (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville) at the 84:27 mark as she beat the Wildcat's sophomore goalie, Angela Bartlett (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham). Bruen made the run from the right side as Bartlett committed and pushed the ball past her to Trimblett who fired in the goal to the left side and beat Bartlett for what would be the game-winner for Sage. Trimblett now has three game-winning goals and 23 points this season.

In goal for the Gators, senior co-captain Nicole Maher (Glen Clove, NY/Saint Dominic) earned the win in goal and the team's seventh shutout of the year. Now 10-1 in goal, Maher has a 0.74 goals against average this season in 11 games played in net.

Bartlett had 12 saves in the contest and kept her team in the game with a number of hard shot balls that she saved from the Gators. She drops to 6-5-2 in goal this year.

Sage is back in action on October 17 hosting Sarah Lawrence College in a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference match at ACP and will honor their 2015 seniors in conjunction with Senior Day.  The Wildcats of SUNY-Polytechnic are back in action on October 17 at Wells College in a 2:15 p.m. match-up.
