Sage's Maher named Skyline Conference Player of the Week

New York, NY –Sage women's soccer senior team tri-captain Nicole Maher (Glen Clove, NY/Saint Dominic) has been named the Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week. The Gator performer excelled on both ends of the field last week as both a goalie and a forward.

As a goalie for the Gators, Maher allowed only one goal in 155 minutes of action while adding six points on the field in a 3-0 week for Sage.  She registered six saves and converted a penalty kick with 2:49 remaining on September 13 to lift Sage past SUNY-New Paltz, 1-0. She also made a pair of saves and added a goal and an assist in the Gators' 9-1 win versus St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on September 12. Her week also included a save and an assist on September 9 in a 5-0 victory over Cobleskill.

Maher, who in her previous three seasons with the Gators has excelled on offense, has been also spending time in net for Sage this fall. The starting keeper and the shutout winner for Sage, she also tallied the game-winning goal as she converted a penalty kick at 87:11 after a Sage player was fouled hard in the box.

Maher is now the No. 3 all-time leading goal scorer at Sage with 31 career scores, she stands No. 3 as well in career points with 78 points on 31 goals and 16 assists (also No. 3).

On the young season, she is currently No. 7 in scoring points in the league with her 1.33 points per game average, while standing tied for the lead with her three goals. She is also tied for No. 3 in the league in shutouts and No. 10 in saves with a 3.0 per game average.

Sage returns to action on September 15 for a 4 p.m. road contest at Southern Vermont College.
