Diebold Selected the E8 Defensive Player of the Week
ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College sophomore Logan Diebold (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) was selected the Empire 8 Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, September 14.
Diebold, voted third-team All-Conference as a rookie, factored into both RSC tallies to Saturday's 2-1 E8 win vs. SUNY Brockport.
In the 33rd minute, the defender kicked off the scoring by heading home a cross from junior midfielder Ammar Singaporewala (Loudonville, NY/Shaker).
Shortly before the half, a Gator received a red card, putting the hosts down a man for the final 49 minutes of the maintee.
Even before the send-off, the pitch was strongly tilted in favor of the Golden Eagles, as shots were 10-1 at the half and 32-2 overall. The visitors also held an 8-3 advantage on corner kicks.
Despite the uphill climb, RSC looked for its opportunity, which came in the 55th minute. Diebold took a free kick from over the midfield line, which bounced off the head of a SUNY Brockport defender into the net.
After starting the season with five home contests, the Gators (4-1-0/1-0-0 E8) go on the road for the first time this autumn, playing at MCLA on Tuesday.
