Sage into Skyline Women's Volleyball Finals after besting CMSV, 3-0

Purchase, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to the 2014 Skyline Conference Fall Festival taking place on the campus of Purchase College. Top seeded Sage faced the Dolphins of the College on Mt. St. Vincent in the first of two semifinals on Friday night. Sage won the match 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-18) and awaits their championship opponent. No. 2 seeded St. Joseph's College (LI) fell in five sets to No. 4 Mt. St. Mary College in the second semifinal contest this evening. The Gators improve to 24-6 on the year and will be competing in the championship match on Saturday, November 8 at 1 p.m. against Mt. St. Mary College.

2014 Skyline Conference First Team All-Star, senior tri-captain Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) tallied a double-double in the action as she had 11 kills with 10 digs, while senior Rachel Martin (Troy, NY/Troy), another Skyline First Team pick, added 10 kills. Sophomore libero Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Spa), another Skyline First Team pick, added a team-best 12 digs in the action with an ace. Sophomore setter and team tri-captain Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford), who earned placement on the Skyline Second Team, tallied 35 setting assists with an ace and five digs.

Sophomore middle hitter Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) tallied seven kills and seven digs for the Gators.

Putriment leads the team with her 291 kills and 330 points. She has 29 aces with 16 total blocks and 335 digs. She racked up 12 double-doubles this fall having connected for double digit kills and digs in her 100 sets played. As of November 4, she ranked nationally in points per set average (3.28) as well as hitting percentage (.295).

Overall as a Gator, Putriment has 1,335 career kills which is No. 2 only behind the record held by Caitlin (CJ) Ostrowski with 1,411 (2004-2006). She also has 1,664 career digs and is six shy of moving into the No. 3 spot held by Kelsey Wilson (1,669, 2008-2011). She is also No. 14 on the career aces list with 118 aces

Wilder has amassed a team-best 91 aces this season, which leads the Gators and is ranked No. 3 in Division III. She is currently No. 1 in the Skyline Conference and No. 4 in Division III with her 0.92 aces per set average. She has also tallied 38 kills with a team-best 396 digs in 101 sets played. She is currently No. 3 on the Sage single-season ace list and is making a run for the single-season mark at Sage.

Liebig leads the Gators with her 945 setting assists and has played in all 103 sets this fall. She has 78 aces and 118 digs as well in her second season. She opens the week ranked No. 5 in career setting assists (1,389), while her 2014 numbers are currently No. 8 in single-season efforts as Sage. She is ranked nationally as well in four different categories. She is No. 9 in aces in Division III, while ranking No. 17 in aced per set average (0.77), No. 67 in setting assists, and No. 78 in total assists.

Sage brings a record of 24-6 into the 2014 Skyline Conference Championship match. The Gators are looking for the program's third possible Skyline Conference Championship when they take to the court on Saturday.

The Gators won the league title and NCAA Division III bids in 2007 and 2008, while finishing as the league runner-up last season to St. Joseph's College (LI).

Sage is also ranked nationally as a team in several categories, including No. 5 in service aces (322), No. 6 in aces per set (3.29), and No. 41 in win percentage (.793). The Gators are ranked No. 55 in team hitting percentage (.221), while several players are also ranked for their efforts in the team's successful 2014 campaign.

After leading 2-0, No. 2 seeded St. Joseph's College (LI) dropped the final three sets to Mt. St. Mary College in the second semifinal match (18-25, 7-25, 25-17, 25-15, 15-11).
