Sage wins Plattsburgh Tournament as Augstein-Collins wins 300th game; Martin named Tourney MVP

Plattsburgh, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team wrapped action on Saturday afternoon in the 2014 Best Western Ground Round Cardinal Tournament hosted by Plattsburgh State College. Sage triumphed                

3-0 over Bridgewater State (MA), 25-16, 25-14, 32-34, 25-18 and then beat Elms College, 3-0 (25-7, 25-19,25-12).  The win over Bridgewater State marked the 300th career win for Sage's head women's volleyball coach Sandy Augstein-Collins.  With the wins on Saturday, Sage extends their win streak three matches and stands at 7-4 on the year.

Sage's senior Rachel Martin (Troy, NY/Troy) was named the tournament MVP, while senior Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) was also named to the all-tournament team, her second of the 2014 campaign.

Against Bridgewater State, Sage's Putriment added 14 kills with two aces and had a .306 attack percentage. Martin racked up seven kills, while sophomore middle hitter Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) added 10 kills.

Sophomore setter Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) connected for 48 setting assists in the action while adding three digs and an ace. Junior middle hitter Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) had 12 kills with a .348 attack percentage and a dig to help Sage combine for a .259 attack percentage in the contest.

Against Elms, Liebig came up with 26 setting assists, while connecting for five aces and two digs. Putriment added 10 digs with three kills and a block assist. Mango tallied seven kills with three digs, while Martin posted seven kills and a block assist. Berard added seven kills and three digs, while sophomore outside hitter Siena Wilder (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) connected for 11 digs.

Sage returns to action on September 17 hosting Hartwick College at 7 p.m. in the Kahl Gym. Sage fans are encouraged to wear green and help flood the swamp on Wednesday night!
