Gators drop tough 2-0 decision to SJC in Skyline Conference Semifinals

Box Score

Medford, NY---The Sage College men's soccer team traveled to the top seeded Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College on Wednesday for the 2011 Skyline Conference Semifinals. The host Golden Eagles recorded the 2-0 win to advance to the title game, while the Gators' hopes of the program's first Skyline Conference Championship crown were dashed in the process.

SJC improves to 13-7-1 on the year, while Sage drops to 11-7-1. SJC will host the championship contest on November 5, while Sage must await the announcement of the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Division III tournament field to open next week.

SJC took a 2-0 halftime lead and held on for the win. William Kuhlwilm scored the first goal of the match at 36:07 on a feed from Craig Ceruti. SJC's then scored at 42:23 as John Dettori scored on the feed from Kuhlwilm and Doug Kane.

Sage held a 12-10 shot advantage in the match, but were not able to get past SJC's goalie, Chris Muhns, who had five saves in the match. For the Gators, freshman goalie Trevor Paddy (Brooklyn, NY/Jamaica) made one save in the fall and now stands at 8-3 on the season.

Overall on the 2011 campaign, Sage's sophomore Wesley Finch (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy)  leads the squad with his program-best 11 goals, 28 points, and five game-winning goals. Finch is on target to become the program's 50 point scorer as he has 35 points on 14 goals with seven assists and six career game-winners. Rookie midfielder Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) has eight goals with a school-record seven assists this season, good enough for 23 points which is second highest on the 2011 squad.

Only a second-year varsity program, the Gators have already served notice as a Division III leader. With the release of the most recent NCAA Division III statistical rankings on October 31, the team ranks 18th in total goals, 25th in scoring offense, and 49th in total assists. The 2011 Gators have connected on 54 goals, while averaging 3.0 goals per game with 38 assists (2.0 per game) in 19 matches.
