Glenmont, NY---The Sage Colleges men's soccer team opened the 2011 season on Thursday afternoon hosting the Wildcats of SUNY-IT. Sage tallied a 3-0 win to mark the team's first opening day win in just the second varsity season for the Gator men's program. Rookie midfielder Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) scored a pair of first half goals to lift the team, while rookie goaltender Trevor Paddy (Brooklyn, NY/Jamaica) recorded the complete game shutout in his collegiate debut.

Sage improves to 1-0, while SUNY-IT falls to 0-1. A year ago, the first-year Gators went 7-9-1 and had four shutouts and fell 1-0 in two overtimes to the Wildcats in the first meeting of the two programs.

Trinidad scored his first collegiate goal on a penalty kick at 22:09 and struck again at 23:55 to finish the day with four points. Sophomore Kris Kallenbach (Bristol, CT/Bristol Central) converted a feed from freshman Mohamed Mohamed (Burlington, VT/Burlington) at 49:28.

SUNY-IT's sophomore goalie Malick Faye (Bronx, NY/MVCC) finished with seven saves in taking the loss, while Paddy recorded eight saves in the match.

Sage will take to the pitch again on Saturday in Utica College Tournament as they face Hunter College at 3:00 p.m., while SUNY-IT's next contest is on September 6 at Clarkson.

Sage's head coach Kyle Clancy said of the performance, "the players came out with great intensity from the start and continued to show excellent energy throughout the game." Clancy added, "I'm proud of their effort and the improvement seen throughout the game."
