Finch's heroics lift Sage past FSC, 1-0

Box Score

Farmingdale, NY---The Sage College men's soccer team travelled to Farmingdale State College for a Skyline Conference match. The Gators tallied the 1-0 victory and improve to 8-5-1 overall and 4-2 in the conference. The FSC Rams falls to overall and 2-3 in the league.

Only a second-year program, Sage has already exceeded the victory total from the first team (7-9-1) as they hit eight victories and also surpassed the entire team's 2010 goal total (32) with 42 thus far in the 2011 campaign.

Sage earned the win as sophomore Wesley Finch (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) scored the lone goal of the match with 9:09 left in regulation to break the scoreless tie. Finch leads the Gators in scoring with a program-best nine goals this fall, including four game-winners. Finch was assisted on the play by rookie forward Jose Miranda (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) as he fed the ball to Finch for his fifth assist of the year.

The first half saw a 7-3 shot advantage and a 3-2 corner kick advantage by Sage, with a few scoring opportunities by freshman forward Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) that missed wide or just high for the Gators.

In the second, Sage led again 7-5 in shots and a corner kick and goal by Finch would lead to the game-winner. Finch tapped the corner kick to Miranda who sent the ball back to Finch as he streaked towards the goal and sent a shot into the bottom right corner.

Sage's freshman goalkeeper Trevor Paddy (Brooklyn, NY/Jamaica) made three saves for the win and his second shutout of the fall.

Sage returns to action mid-week when they travel to Maritime College for a 7 p.m. Skyline Conference match against the 2010 Skyline Conference Championship team.
