Women's Tennis Beats Broncos for Second Win in as Many Days!

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's tennis team hosted the Broncos of SUNY-Delhi on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match. The Gators collected a 6-3 win to stand at 2-0, while SUNY-Delhi drops to 0-1.

Sage took first and second doubles, while the Broncos were victorious at third doubles. Sage's juniors Sadie Dunne (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and co-captain Abbey Clobridge (West Sand Lakes, NY/Averill Park) posted an 8-2 win over sophomores Safiyyah Muhammad (Bronx, NY) and Reika Kumasaki (Yokohama, Japan), while Sage's juniors Julia Geisel (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and Rebecca Jackson (Saugerties, NY/John A. Coleman) added the 8-1 win at second doubles, beating sophomore Mackenzie Landman (Barneveld, NY/Holland Patent) and Hina Yanagawa.

Third doubles went to junior Jessica Biller (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and Katie Mach (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) as they beat the Gators' pair of sophomores Alison Trudo (West Chazy, NY/ Beekmantown) and sophomore Molly Cochrane (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeymans), 8-4.

For the singles part of the match, Sage's Clobridge was a winner at first singles, besting Muhammad, 6-2, 6-2, while Kumaski took second singles over Jackson, 6-2, 6-4.

Dunne, Geisel, and Trudo added wins for the Gators, taking 3rd, 4th, and fifth singles, respectively. Trudo added the decisive match for the Gators in the victory.

Sage is back in action on September 8 hosting Houghton College at Albany Academy's Tennis Facility at 1 p.m. in the Gators' first Empire 8 match of the 2018 season.
