Balanced Scoring Effort Propels RSC Women's Basketball Past Keuka

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College returned to the win column with this evening's 70-46 Empire 8 Conference home victory vs. Keuka. 

The Gators used a 14-2 second quarter run spanning 2:47 to hold a double-digit advantage at the break. RSC, which outscored the Wolves 30-15 in the second stanza, had five players score in twin figures in the win.

Sophomore guard Layla Acosta (Haines City, FL/Haines City) led the way with 17 points.  She tallied 15 points in the first half to help RSC go into the locker room ahead 42-32.

Freshman forward Kallie Hopkins (Millsboro, DE/Poly Tech) established a career-high with 10 points.  The rookie, who grabbed six or more rebounds for the third-straight game, came down with 10 boards, tying her career high.

Junior guard Malena Gereau (Schroon Lake, NY/Schroon Lake Central), junior guard Olivia Huneau (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes), and sophomore forward Aniyah Kelley (New Castle, DE/William Penn) also found themselves in double digits in Friday night's victory.

Gereau dished out six assists, while Kelley was 5-of-6 from the field. 

Keuka College (1-17, 0-10 E8) recieved 12 points from junior guard Caiden Crego's and 11 from senior guard Sydney Brown. 

Looking ahead, RSC (5-15/3-8 E8) is back on the hardwood tomorrow afternoon as they host the Utica University Pioneers at 2:00 pm. The contest will serve as a fundraiser for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. 


Gator Bites: RSC made its second-consecutive appearance in the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament Semifinals last season…Nine players returned from the team…They joined four newcomers to make up this year's roster…Head coach Allison Coleman began her tenth season at the helm with an overall record of 136-84…Acosta started the weekend leading RSC with a 13.6 scoring average, good for sixth in the E8…She scored 30 points on 45.0 percent shooting in the E8 victory vs. Elmira on January 12, becoming the just seventh Gator to score 30 or more points in a game.
