RSC Concludes 2023 vs. Coast Guard

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College wrapped up the 2023 portion of its campaign with a 72-42 non-conference loss to visiting Coast Guard this afternoon.

Sophomore guard Layla Acosta (Haines City, FL/Haines City) topped the Gators with 20 points in the Sunday matinee.

Junior guard Malena Gereau (Schroon Lake, NY/Schroon Lake Central) added seven points and four assists, while junior guard Angelina Schaefer (Latham, NY/Shaker) secured a team-high six rebounds.

Coast Guard (9-2), now winners of four-straight, had seven players score at least eight points in the road victory. Sophomore forward Mackenzie Hilden led the Bears with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting and 10 rebounds.

This afternoon also capped the non-conference slate for RSC (2-9), as only Empire 8 Conference games remain on this year's schedule. The Gators play next at Utica on Friday at 5:30 pm.


Gator Bites: RSC made its second-consecutive appearance in the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament Semifinals last season…Nine players returned from the team…They joined four newcomers to make up this year's roster…Head coach Allison Coleman began her tenth season at the helm with an overall record of 136-84…Acosta entered the weekend leading RSC with a 12.4 scoring average...She registered 15.3 points per-game during the last four contests.
