ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After it was rescheduled twice due to weather this past weekend, Russell Sage College baseball finally took their trip to Rochester, splitting a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader with the Cardinals of St. John Fisher.
Five Gators contributed multi-hit performances as RSC took down the Cardinals 13-10 in game one.
Junior infielder Dom Caminitti (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) went a perfect 4-4 at the dish, driving in one and scoring three runs. Outfielder James Lubanski (Port Washington, NY/Paul D. Schreiber), a grad student, plated four in a three-hit performance.
Junior infielder Jeff Stearnes (Vergennes, VT/Vergennes Union) had three hits and two runs batted in, while junior outfielders Jared Russell (Colonie, NY/Colonie) and Brendan Espinal (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) each contributed two in the hit column
Joe Degroot (Clay, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse), a grad student, was credited with the win in game one, striking out five over his 3.2 innings of work.
Junior outfelder Evan Grimes (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) led the way for the Gators, knocking two hits and driving in a run.
Matthew Denatale (Rhinebeck, NY/Rhinebeck), a grad student, got the nod for the Gators, punching out five over three innings pitched.
Senior infielder James Murphy contributed a four hit, three RBI performance in the win for the Cardinals.
The win was credited to junior pitcher Tanner Frank, who struck out seven Sage hitters over his 5.1 innings of work.
Looking ahead, RSC (6-8) keeps Empire 8 play rolling with a doubleheader against Alfred on Saturday.
Gator Bites: Coming off a trip to the Empire 8 conference tournament championship, the Gators are looking to continue to build in their third year as a program.
