Bats Stay Hot in Thursday Morning Win

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Russell Sage College baseball scored a season-high 18 runs Thursday morning as they defeated Waynesburg 18-4 (7 innings) in their sixth matchup on their spring break trip in Florida.

Six Gators showed out with multi-hit performances, including four from the red-hot junior outfielder Brendan Espinal (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), who went 4-4 with two RBIs in the contest, including hitting his first big fly on the season, a first inning solo shot. Espinal is currently hitting .654 on the trip with three contests left to play.

Juniors Dom Caminitti (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac), Jeff Stearnes (Vergennes, VT/Vergennes Union), Christian Brown (Troy, NY/Troy), Jorge Oropeza (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena High School), and outfielder James Lubanski (Port Washington, NY/Paul D. Schreiber), a grad student, all had two hits and at least two runs batted in.

Sophomore pitcher Michael Fahey (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall) got the victory out of the bullpen for the Gators, going 5.2 scoreless innings, punching out three in the effort.

Junior Dalton Mount cracked two doubles for the Yellow Jackets (4-2) and scored a run.

Juniors Seth Burgdolt and Alec Engelmore had two hits a piece and each drove in a run.

Looking ahead, RSC squares off with Dominican on Friday afternoon for a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is slated for 3:00 PM. 


Gator Bites: Coming off a trip to the Empire 8 conference tournament championship, the Gators are looking to continue to build in their third year as a program.
