Offense Explodes in Gators Wednesday Morning Win

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Russell Sage College baseball scored ten runs in their final three trips to the plate Wednesday morning as they took down Thomas College 11-5.

Outfielder Brendan Espinal (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) continued his hot streak, going three for four with two doubles and two RBIs. The junior is 13 for 22, good for a .590 batting average, with five doubles, two triples, and seven RBIs so far on spring break.

Junior outfielder Leandro Guzman (New Britain, CT/New Britain) pushed four scores across the plate, drawing a bases-loaded walk in the 6th and smashing a bases-clearing double in the next frame.

Juniors Jared Russell (Colonie, NY/Colonie) and Zachary Figueras (Apopka, FL/Windermere) used back-to-back triples in the 5th inning to put the first Gators run on the board. Russell drove in two runs on a double in the 6th inning.

Junior infielder Dom Caminitti (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) and outfielder James Lubanski (Port Washington, NY/Paul D. Schreiber), a grad student, each added run-producing knocks in the effort.

In his first start on the young season, junior Jaylen Cuevas (Bronx, NY/Fordham Prep) punched out seven over his six-inning quality start to secure the victory.

Junior pitcher Michael Karpinski (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga Springs) contributed three no-hit innings out of the pen to shut down Thomas.

The Terriers (0-4) were held to eight hits on the day, two apiece off the bats of Jason Bartlett, Mitch Regan, and Elijah Morton. Javier Diaz added a double and a RBI, while Samuel Keblinsky ripped a two-run single in the 6th.

Looking ahead, RSC keeps the early mornings going with another 9:30 start against Waynesburg on Thursday.
