KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Baseball dropped both ends of Saturday's doubleheader at NYU.
After dropping the opener 18-2, RSC fell 10-3 in the nightcap.
The Gators produced ten hits in game two, including the first big fly of the year coming off the bat of outfielder James Lubanski (Port Washington, NY/Paul D. Schreiber), a grad student, who added a single and a run batted in.
Junior outfielder Jared Russell (Colonie, NY/Colonie) and junior infielder Jeff Stearnes (Vergennes, VT/Vergennes Union) each hit two singles and stole a base.
NYU (2-0) kicks their season off with a doubleheader sweep.
Sophomore lefty Zack Centin went seven innings, punching out ten while only walking two.
The Violets were led by a three-hit four RBI by junior infielder Richard Beggy.
First baseman Nick Argenziano added two hits and two runs batted in to the scorecard.
RSC (0-3) heads to Florida for nine games at the RussMatt Baseball Invitational starting March 2.
Gator Bites: Entering its third season as a program, RSC looks to continue to climb the Empire 8 Conference ladder in 2024…The Gators, which returned all 10 starters, were the runner-up in the 2023 E8 Championship Tournament…Outfielder James Lubanski (Port Washington, NY/Paul D. Schreiber), a grad student, and junior pitcher Liam Doyle (West Sayville, NY/Connetquot) headline the returnees…Lubanski was named third-team All-Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association, while Doyle, a righty, topped RSC in innings pitched and ERA last spring.
