New York, NY---The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team produced the 2012 Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year on Thursday with the selection of  forward Nicole Maher (Glen Cover, NY/Saint Dominic), while she was also placed on the Skyline Conference All-Star First Team. 

Also honored on Thursday, were rookie midfielder, Kelsey Woron (Baltimore, MD/ Chesapeake) and senior defender, Rachel Wampler (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle Area) as they were both named to the Skyline Conference All-Star Second Team for their play. 

For the 2012 Gators, who were under the guidance of rookie head coach Caitlin Colfer, the squad picked up the team's sixth straight post-season bid as they were the No. 5 seed in the 2012 Skyline Conference Tournament. The Gators fell to the No. 4 seeded SUNY-Old Westbury Panthers, 3-1 to end the team's season. 

Maher connected for a team-best 13 goals and six assists for 32 points. She had three game-winning goals and four multiple-goal games in making 16 starts for the Gators. In addition, on four separate occasions, she had five or more points in a match. Overall on the season, she currently ranks No. 54 in Division III in points per game with her 2.0 average and is also No. 70 with her 0.813 goals per game average. She was also a two-time conference Rookie of the Week honoree and finished the season ranked fourth in the league in goals. 

Woron collected 13 points on the season after adding six goals and an assist. She was named to the Skyline Conference Honor Roll in the final week of play for the Gators after tallying a goal in the conference quarterfinals.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wampler was an anchor for the Sage defense during her four-year career and played in 57 games during that time frame. She helped the team to Skyline Tournament bids in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. She finished this season, which was shortened by an injuring with six points on two goals and two assists. The team Gators recorded five shutouts this fall with a 5-10-1 record.
