Sage falls in season-opener, 3-2

Alfred, NY---The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team opened the 2012 campaign on Saturday night competing in the Alfred University Saxon Invitational. The contest marked the debut of Caitlin Colfer as the Gator head women's soccer coach as well as the 400th game played by Sage's women's booters.

Sage opened the 2012 season facing nearby Albany College of Pharmacy in the opening round of play. Albany College of Pharmacy pulled past Sage college in a 3-2 victory.

Sage went into intermission on top (2-1) as freshman Nicole Maher (Glen Cove, NY/Saint Dominic) and junior Danielle Kitsock (Claverack, NY/Hudson) netted two goals (4:19, 6:45).  Ripepi Frances scored the lone goal of the half for Albany at the 4:45 mark.  Both teams would take five shots.

In the second half Albany was able to come back with goals from Alexa Schooley (35:26) and Sarah Cope (47:23).  Cope's goal would prove to be the final score of the game as Albany finished with an 11-6 shot advantage.

Sage's sophomore goalie Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravea Coeymans Selkirk) played the full 90 minutes for Sage, making six saves, and Alexandra Weston made two saves, going the full 90 minutes for Albany.

Alfred takes on Albany College of Pharmacy in the championship game Sunday at 6 p.m. after beating SUNY-IT 3-1 in the other first round contest. SUNYIT will play Sage College in the consolation game at 3 p.m.
