SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Russell Sage College headed to nationally-ranked Springfield College for a Saturday morning tri-match with Hunter and came away with a pair of 3-0 setbacks.
Freshman outside hitter Dylan Fox (Albany, NY/Colonie) topped the Gators with 18 kills on .285 hitting, four digs, two aces, and two assists across the six sets.
Junior setter Jack McWilliam (Fishkill, NY/Arlington) totaled 28 assists, while outside hitter Jarod Martel (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), a grad student, recorded six kills against Springfield, coming in at No. 7 in the latest AVCA national poll.
Springfield (16-3) hit .569 as a team in the sweep. Junior outside hitter Noah Weislo registered eight kills and five digs, while junior setter Ethan Weislo added 20 assists to pace the Pride.
Hunter (13-8) received eight kills on .778 hitting from sophomore outside hitter Muhammad Al-Amine Mbaye in its neutral-site victory.
RSC (6-18) continues its season-closing stretch of seven matches away from home on Friday at NVU-Johnson.
Gator Bites: 2024 marked the Gators first as members of the New England Volleyball Conference…League coaches picked RSC, under the direction of Reid Hartl, to finish sixth in the NEVC…The roster, which has six returnees from last season, boasts plenty of local flavor with eight student-athletes hailing from Section 2…Hartl, now in his third season, added seven newcomers to the roster, including four freshmen…Four grad students are the roster, including co-captains: libero Deshawn Fleary, (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair), and Martel...Fox was selected the NEVC Rookie of the Week twice this spring…He earned the accolade for the periods ending January 21 and February 11...Fox tallied 31 kills, 3.10 per-set, on .207 hitting, 13 digs, six total blocks, two aces, and two assists across three matches this week.
