ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College concluded a run of four-straight home contests to begin the season by falling 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-20) to visiting Elms this afternoon.

Three Gators recorded six or more kills in the Saturday matinee.

Outside hitter Jarod Martel, a grad student, (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) registered 10 kills on .400 hitting and nine digs.    

Freshman outside hitter Dylan Fox (Albany, NY/Colonie), the reigning New England Volleyball Conference Rookie of the Week, contributed eight kills, eight digs and three blocks, while senior opposite Wylkins Occelin (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey) rounded out the trio with six kills.

Sophomore middle hitter Alexander Bergman (Gusev, Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia/West Grand (CO)) aced eight serves and totaled four blocks, while sophomore setter Connor Murphy (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) distributed 14 assists.

Outside hitter Pedro DeJesus, a grad student, topped Elms (1-3) with 16 kills on .583 hitting, seven digs, and three aces.  Senior setter Collin Liedke tallied a double-double of 24 assists and 11 digs for the Blazers.

Looking ahead, the Gators (0-4) compete on the road for the first time this season on Saturday at Saint Thomas Aquinas.  Start time is slated for 12:00 pm.


Gator Bites: 2024 marks the Gators first as members of the New England Volleyball Conference…League coaches picked RSC, under the direction of Reid Hartl, to finish sixth in the NEVC…The roster, which has six returnees from last season, boasts plenty of local flavor with eight student-athletes hailing from Section 2…Hartl, now in his third season, added seven newcomers to the roster, including four freshmen…Four grad students are the roster, including co-captains: Deshawn Fleary, a grad student, (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair), an opposite, and outside hitter Jarod Martel, a grad student, (Albany, NY/Colonie Central).
