Martel Honored on "Senior Night"

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College dropped the final home game of its spring 3-1 (26-24, 25-14, 25-21, 25-15) to Elms tonight.

Freshman outside hitter Dylan Fox (Albany, NY/Colonie) registered team-highs of 13 kills on .212 hitting, four total blocks, and nine digs in the non-conference setback.

Outside hitter Jarod Martel (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), a grad student, recognized before the game as part of the "Senior Night" festivities, added ten kills, while junior setter Jack McWilliam (Fishkill, NY/Arlington) distributed 34 assists.      

Elms (5-16), which hit .320 as a team, had six players tally five or more kills in the road win. Outside hitter Pedro DeJesus, a grad student, led the way with 14 kills on .200 hitting, four aces, three total blocks, and six digs.

The Gators close their season with only one of the final 14 matches held inside the Kahl Campus Center. RSC (6-16/1-4 NEVC) plays against No. 7 Springfield College and Hunter on Saturday afternoon.  The tri-match, hosted by Springfield, will start at 11:00 AM.


Senior Night: Before tonight's game, Russell Sage College Athletics recognized Martel for his contributions to the men's volleyball program. The two-year team captain, who served as an assistant coach last season, currently sits sixth in program records with 634 career kills.  


Gator Bites: 2024 marked the Gators first as members of the New England Volleyball Conference…League coaches picked RSC, under the direction of Reid Hartl, to finish sixth in the NEVC…The roster, which has six returnees from last season, boasts plenty of local flavor with eight student-athletes hailing from Section 2…Hartl, now in his third season, added seven newcomers to the roster, including four freshmen…Four grad students are the roster, including co-captains: libero Deshawn Fleary, (Newark, NJ/Immaculate Conception Montclair), and Martel…Fox was selected the NEVC Rookie of the Week twice this spring…He earned the accolade for the periods ending January 21 and February 11.
