Team Effort Puts Gators Back in the Win Column

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College received at least five points from eight different players in this afternoon's 75-65 victory vs. The Pratt Institute.

The Gators (7-8) got 39 points off the bench, and outrebounded the visiting Cannoneers by a 50-32 margin in the home non-conference win.

Trailing midway through the first half, RSC turned the tide with a 17-6 run spanning 6:40. Up 30-28 at the intermission, the Gators used a 13-4 run across 4:05 to gain some breathing room, eventually holding a double-digit advantage. The Cannoneers climbed back into the MLK Day matinee, getting within seven, 64-57, with 3:33 left.  Senior guard/forward Jackson Brown (Latham, NY/Catholic Central/Fredonia State), one of three Gators in double figures, stemmed the Pratt momentum with a three-pointer with 2:04 remaining. The RSC lead was at least nine from there.

Brown and junior guard Marcus Gentile (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central/Utica) topped the Gators with 15 points apiece.

Freshman guard Cameron Windt paced Pratt (7-9) with 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting.

RSC, which snapped a four-game losing streak, wraps up a four-game homestand on Wednesday vs. Hartwick. The Empire 8 Conference contest is set to tip at 7:30 pm.


Gator Bites: Head coach Brian Barnes is in his 15th season at the helm of the Gators…Seven returnees and eight newcomers comprise this year's roster…The team's co-captains: junior guard Noah Girard (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls), senior guard  Jackson Brown (Latham, NY/Catholic Central/Fredonia State) and junior forward Todd Williamson (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons) helped the Gators get off to a 4-0 start…Girard began the week leading the Gators with 17.1 points per-game, good for fifth in the E8... He recorded 31 points, a career-high, on 10-of-16 shooting in the November 18 win at SUNY Poly...Brown added 10.8 points per-game, while Williamson averaged 8.2 points and 6.2 rebounds...An RSC player has taken home Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the week on four occasions...Freshman center Khalel Noteman (Brooklyn, NY/Canarsie) was picked three times (November 13, November 27, December 4), while freshman guard Deavion Springsteen (Albany, NY/Albany) was chosen on November 20...RSC entered today's matinee ranked third in the E8 by allowing 68.4 points per-game.
