HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Russell Sage College defensive specialist/libero Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), a grad student, moved into second place on the program's career digs list in tonight's 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-18) Empire 8 Conference loss at Houghton. The reigning E8 Libero/Defensive Player of the Year elevated 13 Highlander attacks to pass Helen Putriment '14 and Alison Archambault '03, a pair of RSC Hall of Famers.
Junior outside hitter Macey Salvione (Johnstown, NY/Gloversville) tallied 11 kills and 10 digs for her eighth double-double of the fall. Senior right side Caitlin Hammecker (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added nine kills on .263 hitting and two blocks, while sophomore setter Mia Wood (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) registered 23 assists and three aces.
Freshman outside hitter Ainslie Reimer and freshman setter Morgan Brace each provided Houghton (6-13/2-5 E8) with double-doubles in the home victory. Reimer had 15 kills on .323 hitting, and 12 digs, while Brace contributed 15 assists and 11 digs.
Tonight marked the E8 season finale for the Gators (6-16/17 E8). RSC concludes its campaign with three non-conference matches next week, beginning on Wednesday night at Castleton.
Gator Bites: The fall marks the debut of Rosilyn Cummings at the helm of the Gators…She took over for Sandy Austein-Collins '87, who retired in March after 26 seasons of collegiate coaching, 13 of which came at RSC…Cummings registered her first official win on October 6 at Elmira…Salvione, who has registered eight double-doubles, including four in-a-row between Sept. 16-29, this autumn, began the week leading the Gators in kill per-set (2.40)…Moisidis, now with 1,710 career digs, topped the conference in both digs and digs per-set in each of the past two seasons.
