ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College forced visiting SUNY Delhi into a negative hitting performance to pick up a 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 20-25, 25-15) non-conference victory tonight in the Kahl Campus Center.
Sophomore middle hitter Aniyah Kelley (Newcastle, DE/William Penn) recorded a career-high 15 kills on .481 hitting. She tallied five kills on .625 hitting to help RSC (3-1) take the opening set.
Senior outside hitter Caitlin Hammecker (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added 11 kills on .281 hitting, while sophomore setter Emma Freidel (Utica, NY/New Hartford) registered 32 assists, and four aces.
The Gators held SUNY Delhi to -.009 hitting, including a -.167 effort in the second set, and totaled 6.0 blocks in their home opener. A trio of RSC players: libero Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), a grad student (20), junior defensive specialist Macey Salvione (Johnstown, NY/Gloversville) (12), and junior defensive specialist Savannah Petersen (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) (11) each tallied double-digit digs. Salvione and Moisidis, the reigning Empire 8 Conference Libero/Defensive Player of the Year, aced five serves apiece.
Freshman outside hitter Madelyn Diep paced SUNY Delhi (1-2) with eight kills and 15 digs.
Looking ahead, RSC plays on Friday afternoon at SUNY New Paltz.
