Gators Cap Season-Opening Weekend with Pair of Wins

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Russell Sage College wrapped up its season-opening weekend by winning a pair of matches at the SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinal Classic.

The Gators (2-1) began the day by defeating SUNY Potsdam 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 24-26, 25-20).

Senior outside hitter Caitlin Hammecker (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) established a career-high with 17 kills on .333 hitting to pace RSC. Sophomore setter Emma Freidel (Utica, NY/New Hartford) dished out 36 assists, while defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), a grad student, the reigning Empire 8 Conference Libero/Defensive Player of the Year, recorded 20 digs. She now has 1,457 career digs and has moved into the No.5 spot on RSC's career list. 

Junior opposite Alyssa Adams topped the Bears (1-1) with 19 kills on .324 hitting.

RSC held SUNY Poly to .014 hitting in 3-0 sweep (25-8, 25-16, 25-10).

Sophomore middle hitter Allison Louque (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) led the Gators with 10 kills, also a career-best, on .533 hitting. Junior defensive specialist Macey Salvione (Johnstown, NY/Gloversville) added eight kills and elevated 13 SUNY Poly (0-3) attacks.

RSC hosts SUNY Delhi on Tuesday night. The home opener is set to begin at 7:00 pm.


Notes: The fall marks the debut of Rosilyn Cummings at the helm of the Gators…She took over for Sandy Austein-Collins '87, who retired in March after 26 seasons of collegiate coaching, 13 of which came at RSC…Defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY / Albany), a grad student, began the campaign sixth in program records with 1,415 career digs...The reigning Empire 8 Conference Libero/Defensive Player of the Year topped the conference in both digs and digs per-set in each of the past two seasons.
