Albany, NY – Russell Sage College's women's tennis team hosted the Cardinals of Plattsburgh State University for their season opener on Friday night. The Cardinals collected the 6-2 win to move to 1-0 as the Gators fall to 0-1.

RSC's graduate player Claire Connolly (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) posted the win at No.4 singles, besting Plattsburgh's rookie Ava Carey (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet), 6-3, 6-4. Connolly teamed at No. 2 doubles with junior Gwen Eichen (Moriah, NY/ Moriah Central) for a 9-7 win over Carey and rookie Jacklin Mitchell (Plattsburgh, NY/Peru).

Eichen and senior Sarah Benowitz (New City, NY/Clarkstown) were unable to finish their match at No. 3 singles due to lightening.

RSC is back in action on September 2 hosting Vermont State University Castleton at noon in a non-conference match to played at Stephan and Harriet Myers Middle School in Albany.
