Sage volleyball remains perfect in Skyline Play with two wins on Saturday


Patchogue, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to St. Joseph's College (LI) for a Skyline Conference tri-match and came away with two league victories. Sage bested the College of Mt. St. Vincent (3-0, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17) and then defeated St. Joseph's, 3-2 (18-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-15, 15-12). The wins puts Sage at 8-14 overall and 3-0 in the Skyline Conference.

Against the CSMV, Sage was paced by the play of junior outside hitter Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) had 10 kills with eight digs, while rookie Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) added five kills with five blocks.

Junior Jillian Schwab (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville Manlius) added four kills, while sophomores Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) and Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) connected for four kills and two blocks, respectively.

Against St. Joe's, the match went to a decisive fifth set with Sage triumphing 15-12 in the final stanza of action.  Berard led the team with her 18 kills and added three block assists with two digs. Putriment netted 16 kills with 19 digs for another double-double.  

Senior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) handed out 45 setting assists with 13 digs and two kills. Junior defensive specialist Katelyn Drollette (Cadyville, NY/Saranac) had 19 dig, while freshman outside Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) added 12 digs.

Senior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) handed out 26 setting assists with eight digs and a kill, while junior defensive specialist Katelyn Drollette (Cadyville, NY/Saranac) had 17 digs.

Putriment wraps the week with her career resume elevated to 1,150 career digs (No. 10) at Sage as she moved ahead of Caitlin Ostrowski (2004-2006) with 1,149). She now has 900 career kills, which is No. 6 as well at Sage.

Sage returns to action on October 9 travelling to Mt. St. Mary College for 7 p.m. Skyline Conference match.
