Gator volleyball team splits results on Friday at Trinity-Wesleyan Tournament


Hartford, CT – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to Connecticut to compete at the Trinity College Invitational. Sage faced Trinity and Bridgewater State (MA) on Friday night in the first of two days of action. Against Trinity, the Bantams posted a 3-0 win (25-21, 25-19, 25-19). In the nightcap, Sage posted a 3-0 win over Bridgewater State (25-22, 30-28, 25-21). Sage stands at 3-9 on the year.

Against Trinity, Sage's junior outside hitter Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added five kills with 15 digs and an ace. Sophomore Morgan Robinson (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added eight kills, while rookie Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) connected for seven kills with three digs.

Junior defensive specialist Katelyn Drollette (Cadyville, NY/Saranac) had 20 digs, while senior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) handed out 26 setting assists.

In the final match of the night, Sage was victorious over the Bridgewater State Bears. Putriment had a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Putriment has already connected for 105 kills this season, elevating her career resume to include 791 kills, which is No. 6 on the career list at Sage. She has also picked up two double-double this fall and now has 141 digs with 12 aces and seven total blocks on the 2013 season. She ranks No. 12 on the career list with her 998 digs and is poised to join the 1,000 dig club on Saturday.

Sophomore Mickey Mango (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) added eight kills with three blocks, while freshman Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) added six kills.

Drollette had a team-best 28 digs in the action, while Cooney added 30 setting assists. Cooney leads the team with her 211 setting assists this season, now has 2,614 career setting assists and ranks No. 2 at Sage.

Sage returns to action on September 14 on the final day of the Trinity College Invitational facing Western Connecticut State University and Colby Sawyer College.
