Sage drops home opener to Skidmore on White Out Night

Albany, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team held the squad's home opener on Wednesday evening in the Kahl Gym and faced the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College. The visiting Thoroughbreds remained unbeaten with a 3-0 win over Sage (26-24, 25-21, 25-22). Skidmore improves to 3-0 on the year, while Sage drops to 1-4.

Skidmore's senior tri-captain and reigning Liberty League Player of the Week, senior Corinne Palmer (Montvale, NJ/Pascack Hills) had a team-best 14 kills and a .467 hitting percentage to pace her team. She added four digs and three total blocks.

Junior outside hitter Aria Goodman (Olympia, WA/Capital) added six kills with 10 digs, while senior setter Emma Wilberg (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) added 27 setting assists with a pair of digs.

Sage's junior outside hitter Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville), who opened the week garnering Skyline Conference Player of the Week status, had 10 kills and 18 digs for her third double-double of the season in five matches played. Also recording a double-double in the action was rookie outside hitter Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) as she had 10 kills with 10 digs. She also had two block assists with two aces.

Rookie Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) added six kills with two block assists, while senior setter Joanie Cooney (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added 19 setting assists with six digs and two kills. Freshman Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) had 11 setting assists and five digs.

Sage will be back in action on September 6 and 7 travelling to Endicott College for a two-day tournament. Skidmore returns to action on September 6 and 7 competing at the University of Rochester Invitational.
