UTICA, N.Y. – Sophomore infielder Ciana Santana (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) singled home sophomore infielder Amber Banas (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) for what was the game-winning run of this afternoon's 3-2 (8 innings) Russell Sage College Empire 8 Conference win at Utica.
Santana went 3-for-4 to help the Gators take the opener of the E8 twin bill. Banas and junior catcher Abigayle Campbell (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) each went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while sophomore pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) (Win, 6-10) whiffed seven Pioneers in her complete game.
Utica (18-12/8-4 E8) used a seven-run fourth to secure the second game 9-1 (5 innings).
Freshman catcher Rachel Little paced the Pioneers in the doubleheader by going a combined 4-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI.
RSC (9-21/4-8 E8) is slated to play next on Tuesday afternoon against Union. The pair of non-conference contests are scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
