Gators Split Thursday Non-Conference Doubleheader

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Russell Sage College softball split a doubleheader with Mount Saint Mary College this afternoon, losing game one 5-3 and winning game two 7-3. 

The Gators had three hitters register multiple knocks in game one.

Sophomore infielder Amber Banas (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) had three hits and scored a run. Junior outfielder Madalyn Ring (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) and freshman infielder Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) each roped two singles. 

Freshman infielder Allison Kenyon (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) and junior catcher Serina Garmendiz (Hempstead, NC/Pine Bush) both registered run-producing singles in the twin-bill opener. 

Sophomore pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) punched out five Knights over his six innings of work. 

Grace McDonald and Chloe Graham each tallied three hits in the victory for Mount Saint Mary's.

The Gators bounced back in game two, scoring in three different frames and having six hitters find their way into the hit column. 

Sophomore catcher/outfielder Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) went 3-3 and scored three runs, while Banas and freshman infielder Emily O’Keefe (Albany, NY/Albany) each had two hits. O'Keefe drove in three teammates and Banas hit a run-producing double.

KenyonRing, and Tyler also tallied singles for the Gators. 

Madore punched out six batters in four innings of work out of relief.

Laura Dentato led the way for the Knights (10-17) with a two-hit, one RBI performance.    

Looking ahead, RSC (8-20) heads to Utica for an Empire 8 conference doubleheader with the Pioneers on Saturday.

Sophomore pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) was named Empire 8 conference pitcher of the week for the period ending Sunday, April 7. The righty allowed zero earned runs and struck out 16 across 10.1 innings of work.
