Trailblazers spoil Gator regular-season finale on Tuesday night

Troy, NY---The Sage Colleges men's soccer team hosted the Trailblazers of MCLA on Tuesday night at RPI's Renwyck Field.  The Trailblazers tallied a 3-0 win over Sage to improve to 5-9 overall, while the loss puts Sage at 12-4-1.  

MCLA's senior Jacob McCall (Lincoln, RI/Lincoln) put the Trailblazers on the board with his sixth goal of the season after he converted the feed from senior Joseph Mecca (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) at the 25:47 mark. The score remained a 1-0 MCLA lead at the break.

The Trailblazers tallied a pair of second half scores as sophomore Luke Fisher (Sharon, MA/Sharon) scored an unassisted goal at 61:59 and classmate, Ben Souza (Monson, MA/Monson) converted the feed from junior Drew Webster (Petersburgh, NY/Berlin) at 76:35 for his second goal of the season.

MCLA's junior goalie Shawn Willis (Stephentown, NY/Berlin) made four saves in starting the match and shared the shutout win with sophomore Matthew Robinson (Petersham, MA/Maher), who made the saves in the second half of the contest.     

Sage freshman goalkeeper TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) made five saves in the his 81 minutes of work with three goals allowed, while junior Tim Madden (Watertown, NY/Watertown) in eight and a half minutes of work.

MCLA returns to action on October 26 travelling to Worcester State for a 7 p.m. conference match, while the Gators secured the team's third straight Skyline Conference bid. Sage earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament which commences play on Saturday, October 27. Sage will play the winner of a quarterfinal match, on Wednesday, October 31 in a time and venue to be determined once the 2012 conference tournament field is completed.
