OT Thriller puts Sage in winner's circle as Sparrin scores

Delmar, NY---The Sage Colleges men's soccer team hosted the Knights of Berkeley College on Saturday afternoon at the Bethlehem SoccerPlex. The Gators collected a thrilling 2-1 overtime win to collect the team's first win on the young season. Sage stands at 1-1 overall, while the Knights drop to 0-2.

The Gators forced the overtime with just 10 seconds remaining in regulation as sophomore midfielder Austin Wilson (Frankfort, NY/Frankfort Schuyler Central) converted a feed from sophomore midfielder Kenny Barnes (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) at the 89:50 mark forcing the overtime.

Berkeley scored the first goal of the match at the 79:14 mark as sophomore midfielder Ramon Arce (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) converted a strong pass from junior defender Paul Logan (Kearny, NJ/Kearny).

Sage pushed the ball down the field in the final minute of regulation and Wilson tallied his first collegiate score to force the overtime.

Sage found new life in the overtime and once again pressured the Knights and junior forward Michael Sparrin (Ilion, NY/Ilion) provided the game-winner on a pass from junior midfielder Kris Kallenbach (Bristol, CT/Bristol Central) at the 93:23 mark of the contest and gave the Gators the win in the process.

 

Sage's junior goalie Tim Madden (Watertown, NY/Watertown) got the win and the start for the Gators and made six saves on the afternoon.

 

BC's sophomore goalie Thomas Frangieh (Newton, NJ/Newton) suffered the loss after making five saves in the action.

 

Sage returns to action on September 4 hosting Bard College at 7 p.m. at RPI's Renwyck Field (Troy, NY).
