New York, NY---The Sage Colleges men's soccer team had its rookie goalkeeper, TJ Zehner (Beacon, NY/Beacon) earn acclaim for his play last week as he was named the Skyline Conference Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week.
Zehner, who went 2-0 last week in net, helped the team improve to 6-1 on the season. On September 12, he recorded four saves as the Gators came from behind to beat Southern Vermont College, 2-1. He finished up the week with a shared shutout victory as Sage beat Sarah Lawrence College.
On the season, he has a 0.85 goals against average with a 4-1 record in net. He currently ranks 77th in Division III with his goals against average and has been part of a squad that also ranks 21st in scoring offense nationally, while standing 12th in Division III in total goals scored. The Gators are 6-1 on the season and are riding a six-game win streak.
Sage was slated to face Union College on September 18, but the match has been postponed due to the weather conditions. No new date has been set for the non-conference match. Sage will take to the pitch next on September 22 for a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference contest against NYU-Poly at Aviator Sports Complex (Brooklyn, NY).
