Sage takes home runner-up crown at Skyline's; Johnston named Rookie of the Year

Farmingdale, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's golf team finished in second place at the 2013 Skyline Conference Championships at the Beth Page Red Course, a par-70, 6,750. The two-day event saw defending league champion, Farmingdale State College win the crown for the sixth year in a row, while Sage finished as the runner-up for the third straight year. The Rams earned the league's championship, as well as the conference's automatic qualifier to the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship in May.

The Rams earned the title for the sixth straight year after posting a school-record two day team-total of 585. Farmingdale State finished 57 strokes ahead of runner-up The Sage Colleges.

FSC's senior Adam Larkin (Bellmore, N.Y.) was the individual champion and Skyline Player of the Year after rounds of 71 and 72 for a two day total of 143. Sophomore Scott Sessions (Pleasantville, N.Y.) was the runner-up after a final round 74 and two day total of 145. Junior Matt Pollock (Northport, N.Y.) followed an opening round 77 with a 2-over par 72 and finished in third place, while sophomore Chris Brosi (Stony Brook, N.Y.) (73-78-151) finished fourth. Senior Rich Kelly (Oceanside, N.Y.) was tied for sixth place individually with rounds of 74 and 81 for the Rams. Larkin set a Farmingdale State school-record by capturing his third Skyline Conference Championship title.

Farmingdale State earned the Skyline Conference's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division III Golf Championships which will be held at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. on May 13-16.

Sage's rookie Kevin Johnston (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) earned Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year honors as well as a spot on the Skyline Conference First Team.

Kevin Johnston was the top finisher for Sage taking home fifth place with a 153 (75-78) and earned both Rookie of the Year honors as well as a spot on the first team for his outstanding play. Sage senior Zach Sullivan (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hill-Ballston Lake) posted a 158 to finish in 10th place after a opening day 83 and a final day 75 and earned his third career selection to the Skyline Conference All-Star Second Team.

Junior D.J. Ioele (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) finished in 17th after posting a 166 (85-81), while senior Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) picked up a tie for 18th place with a 167 (86-81). Rounding out Sage's scorers at the championship was senior captain Richie Christman (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) who took 23rd place with a 170 (84-86).
