Cobleskill, NY – The Sage Colleges' men's golf team opened the new season on Friday at the SUNY-Cobleskill Invitational at the Cobleskill Golf Course.
After winning this event in both 2011 and 2012, Sage finished in second place at the event on Friday, finishing just five strokes out of first place. Winning the seven-team event was the host, SUNY Cobleskill with a round of 305, while Sage took second with a 310 for the day.

Former Sage golfer and now current SUNY-Canton golfer Zach Meade finished as the medalist with a round of 71, while Sage's senior captain Richie Christman (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) picked up second with a round of 72.
Sage's rookie Kevin Johnston (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) finished in a tie for 10th place with a 79, while also tying with fellow Gator, senior Shane Kiselis (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam).
Senior Jeff Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) fired a round of 80 to finish tied for 12th place, while senior Zach Sullivan (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Lake) posted an 84 and tied for 21st. Sophomore D.J. Ioele (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) picked up 29th with his round of 89.
Sage returns to action on Wednesday, September 18 hosting the Sage Invitational at Olde Kinderhook Golf Course (Valatie, NY) with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.
