Balanced Offense Lifts Sage past NYU-Poly, 68-41

Troy, NY –The Sage College women's basketball team hosted NYU-Poly in the Neff Center on Saturday afternoon in a Skyline Conference contest. The Gators snapped a two-game skid with a 68-41 win over the Jays, improving to 9-6 overall and 5-1 in the Skyline. NYU-Poly drops to 2-13 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

The Gators led 27-18 at the break as both sophomore guard Jackie Leslie (Auburn, NY/Skaneateles) and sophomore forward Sara Tironi's (Cambridge, NY/Cambridge Central) each had eight points. Tironi had eight first half boards as well as Sage held the Jays to a 28.0% shooting effort from the floor (7-25).

By game's end, Tironi had 10 points and just missed a double-double as she had nine rebounds. Junior Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) finished with 10 points and five rebounds off the bench to contribute to the team's success on the day, while junior guard Megan Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) also picked up 10 points. She also had four assists and now has 259 career assists, which ranks No. 4 all-time at Sage. 

NYU-Poly's sophomore guard Alyssa D'Apice (Carmel, NY/Carmel) added a game-high 17 points with five rebounds, while senior guard Tabitha Larsen (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) added 13 points with five assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Shannon Meany (Prospect, CT/Woodlands Regional) and sophomore Andrea Koutsis (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) finished with nine rebounds each on the day.

Sage will be in action on Tuesday, January 28 hosting Albany College of Pharmacy in the Kahl Gym at 7 p.m. in the "Battle of New Scotland Avenue." NYU-Poly is back in action on Monday night, January 27 visiting Farmingdale State in a 6 p.m. Skyline Conference match-up.
