UTICA, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Alyssa Pisano scored with 2:07 remaining to propel Utica past visiting Russell Sage College 2-1 this afternoon.
Following the late goal, the Gators had their chances to send the Empire 8 Conference matinee to overtime. RSC (4-7/1-4 E8) earned two corners and was able to get a shot on goal during the final 127 seconds.
Down early thanks to a quick Utica (3-8/1-2 E8) goal, forward Alyssa Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), a grad student, tied the contest at the 42:28 mark.
The Wednesday afternoon conference matchup was tightly-contested throughout. Utica held a 13-10 advantage on shots and 14-13 on corners.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jaia Caron (Bellows Falls, VT/Bellows Falls Union), who was selected the E8 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, stopped six Pioneer shots in defeat (4-7).
The Gators have an open weekend on deck. RSC is back in action on Wednesday afternoon at Skidmore.
