ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College sophomore goalkeeper Jaia Caron (Bellows Falls, VT/Bellows Falls Union) was selected the Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 8.
She totaled 15 saves and recorded an .882 save percentage during a 1-1 week. Caron registered 11 saves vs. Hartwick, the defending conference champions, on Wednesday night. The sophomore followed that up with four saves in Saturday's E8 shutout of visiting Keuka.
Caron has tallied three shutouts, a program single-season record, and seven double-digit save efforts this fall.
The Gators (4-6/1-3 E8) play next on Wednesday afternoon at Utica. Start time is slated for 4:00 pm.
Notes: Forward Sara O'Connor (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna), a grad student, is the program record holder for career points with 77 on 32 goals and 13 assists...She holds program records for most points in a season with 42 in 2019…O'Connor scored four goals in the 12-0 win at Wells on September 28, the most by a Gator in a single game.…Between her, forward Alyssa Fitzgerald (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), a grad student, and midfielder Amy Stevens (Castle Creek, NY/Whitney Point), a grad student, the trio are three of the program's top-five career scoring leaders.
