Albany, NY—Russell Sage College's women's volleyball team hosted the Saxons of Alfred University on Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 contest. Alfred posted a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-16, 25-23) and is now 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8, while RSC falls to 0-6 and 0-5 in the league.
Prior to the contest the Gators honored their four seniors in conjunction with Senior Day. They include defensive specialist Kayla Weaver (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin Perth), outside hitter Brooke Monty (Copake, NY/Taconic Hills), setter Courtney Formosa (Waterford, NY/Waterford-Halfmoon) and right side Renee Martin (Troy, NY/Troy).
Martin responded with a team-best eight kills and had a .375 attack percentage in the contest with a pair of digs and 8.5 points. Formosa added 13 setting assists with three digs, while Weaver had four digs with two aces, a kills and a setting assist. Monty added seven digs with a block assist and a kill for the Gators.
Junior Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) racked up six kills with nine digs and 6.0 points, while junior middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane) added seven kills with a .222 attack percentage with two digs and 7.0 points.
Sophomore defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) had 19 digs with two aces and junior setter Francesca Gigliotti (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) had 11 setting assists with four digs. Rookie Monalissa Carius (Hudson, NY/Hudson) had three kills with two block assists.
Alfred's sophomore Rylee Russin (Broomfield, CO/Broomfield) and rookie Honor Edmands (Reno, NV/Reno) each had 10 kills and Russin had a .400 attack percentage to go with her 11.0 points. Edmands had six digs and ace, while junior setter Amanda Burns (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) added 30 setting assists with nine digs, two aces and a kill.
RSC is back in action on April 18 travelling to Nazareth College for a pair of matches commencing at 1 p.m.
