Late Panther rally sinks Sage, 11-8

Patchogue, NY---The Sage Colleges women's lacrosse team travelled to Long Island to face the Panthers of SUNY-Old Westbury on Saturday night in a Skyline Conference match. The host Panthers tallied the 11-8 win to improve to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline. The loss puts Sage at 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Old Westbury led 6-3 at the half, but Sage scored off the opening draw as sophomore Shannon Rossi (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) scored at 29:20, pulling Sage within two goals. Rookie Monica Koralus (Verbank, NY/Milbrook) added the next goal at 24:22 and Sage trailed by just one score, 6-5. OW snapped the Gators' scoring streak to lead 7-5 before sophomore co-captain Mallory Hansen (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) scored on a feed from Koralus at 18:07, keeping Sage within one goal, 7-6.

With Old Westbury up 8-7, sophomore midfielder Kimberlee Carr (Colonie, NY/Colonie Central) connected the tying goal at the 12:01 mark.

The Panthers held Sage scoreless the rest of the way and finished the night on a 3-0 run to capture the victory.

Hansen led Sage with her three goals, while Koralus had two goals and two assists. Carr netted two scores in the night. Carr leads the Gators with her 18 goals, while Koralus checks in with eight goals and three assists for 11 points, which is second on the squad.

For the Gators, rookie goalie Jackie St. Pierre (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) took the loss after making eight saves on the action on a 29 shots faced with 11 goals allowed.

Sage returns to action on April 2 hosting Purchase College at 6 p.m. in a Skyline Conference game that will take place at the University at Albany's John Fallon Field.
