New York, NY— The Sage College's women's basketball team had two players honored on Monday with the release of the weekly awards. Rookie guard Macie Holmes (Amsterdam, NY/Mekeel Christian Academy) was named the Skyline Rookie of the Week, while junior forward Krystyn Knockwood (Troy, NY/Troy) earned Honor Roll status for her efforts.
Sage, which went 2-0 last week and tallied victories over Mt. St. Mary College and Farmingdale State College in Skyline Conference contests last week, is now 13-2 overall with a perfect 9-0 mark in Skyline Conference play. Sage brings a 12-game win streak into the week and will look to break the program's all-time record for consecutive wins when the Gators visit St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on January 20 for a Skyline match-up.
Holmes surpassed her career high of 18 points she scored on Tuesday night in Sage's overtime win over MSMC as she tallied 19 points against FSC. She made 6-of-8 shots from the floor, while hitting 5 of 7 three pointers with five assists. She averaged 18.5 points per contest over the Gators' two-win week in Skyline play, shooting 12-for-17 from the field (.706) and 10-for-14 beyond the 3-point arc (.714).
In addition to Holmes's exploits from the perimeter, Sage got low-post help last week from Knockwood, who averaged 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5.5 blocks per outing. Knockwood had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, while also tallying five blocks in the game against FSC. She moved into the No. 2 spot in the career blocks list with 68 as she moved ahead Kelly Murphy (65, 1999-2002). The five block effort came on the heels of a personal-best six blocked shots in the victory over MSMC on Tuesday night.
